15-Year-Old Girl Saves Her Mom’s Life From a Violent Attack

On Father’s Day in Germantown, Wisconsin, 15-year-old Jasmine Eskildsen did something extraordinary: she fought off an armed attacker who was stabbing her mother.

She didn’t have a weapon.
She didn’t have training.
But what she did have was the courage to act fast, think on her feet, and fight for someone she loves.

And she saved her mom’s life.

What Happened

Jasmine woke up to the sound of her mother being attacked in their home. The attacker? Her mother’s ex-boyfriend, someone they hadn’t seen in over two years. This wasn’t a random break-in. It was a targeted, violent crime by someone who used to be part of their lives.

Without hesitation, Jasmine ran into the kitchen and jumped into action. She used her fists, her voice, and even a piece of broken wood she found to fight him off. She yelled at him to leave, and eventually, he did.

During the struggle, Jasmine was stabbed in the hand. But she didn’t stop. She locked the door, called 911, and then, following the dispatcher’s instructions performed chest compressions on her mother, who had been stabbed in the chest and had a collapsed lung. Emergency responders say her quick thinking and calm under pressure helped save her mother’s life.

Her words when they arrived? “Please help us.”

Her mother survived. Jasmine is recovering. And their strength is nothing short of inspiring.

What Jasmine Did Right

There are so many lessons here. Real, raw takeaways that remind us what it means to be prepared and aware, even in moments we never imagined facing:

1. She acted immediately.
She didn’t freeze. She moved toward the danger to stop it. That kind of bravery is rare and powerful.

2. She used what was around her.
A piece of broken wood became a weapon. This is the heart of improvised self-defense, using what you have, where you are, to protect yourself or someone else.

3. She used her voice.
She yelled at him to leave. Verbal commands, especially when confident and loud, can disrupt an attacker’s plan.

4. She called for help and followed instructions.
She locked down the house, called 911, and performed CPR on her mom. She stayed focused even while hurt herself.

5. She didn’t give up.
Her mindset was survival. Help her mom. Get through it. That mental determination matters just as much as any tool.

When the Threat Comes From Someone You Know

Here’s a hard truth:
More than half of female homicide victims in the U.S. are killed by a current or former intimate partner.

Jasmine’s story isn’t just about heroism. It’s also a tragic reminder of how often violence comes from someone familiar, someone who once claimed to love us.

This is why we talk about safety planning. Why we teach women how to recognize warning signs. Why we don’t let our guard down just because the threat has a familiar face.

Lessons for All of Us

You don’t have to be a trained fighter to defend yourself or someone you love.
You need mindset. Awareness. The willingness to act.

Here are a few things Jasmine’s story reinforces:

  • Learn basic first aid. CPR, how to stop bleeding, and how to stay calm under pressure are life-saving skills everyone should have.
  • Scan your environment. Know what can be used as a weapon, kitchen tools, furniture, hard books, even a lamp. Anything solid can help.
  • Use your voice. Yelling, demanding the attacker to leave, or drawing attention to the situation can be powerful tools.
  • Have a plan. Whether it’s knowing how to call for help or where to run, a plan, especially for those with complicated relationship histories can make all the difference.

Let this story serve as both inspiration and a call to action because we never know when we’ll be forced to fight for our lives or someone else’s.

Stay ready.
