This case shows how having the right resources can help stop an attack and protect lives.

In a harrowing incident in , a woman managed to fight off an attacker by using her Life Alert button, according to authorities. The incident took place on August 18th, around 9 p.m., when the woman was confronted outside her apartment by a man later identified as 27-year-old William Hercules. He demanded her phone, and when she refused, he became violent, pushing her to the ground and choking her. The assault escalated as he attempted to remove her clothing, resulting in severe injuries, including a broken pelvis and back.

Amid the attack, the woman activated her Life Alert button, which immediately alerted emergency services. According to reports, Hercules fled the scene after hearing the dispatcher’s voice through the device, leaving the woman injured but alive.

Following the incident, Hercules faced numerous charges, including aggravated assault, attempted rape, attempted sexual assault, strangulation, indecent assault, and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned on October 23rd, and court records indicate he remains in custody at the Allegheny County Jail without bail. Hercules is also linked to another assault at a local liquor store and is known to law enforcement for past incidents involving public intoxication.

This incident underscores the importance of having personal safety devices readily accessible and the value of situational awareness in life-threatening situations. While the victim endured serious injuries, her quick thinking and the use of her Life Alert button likely prevented an even worse outcome.
