Brave Woman Escapes and Calls 911 After Alleged Gas Station Assault

PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, a woman managed to escape and call 911 after a Muskegon man reportedly followed her, collided with her vehicle, and sexually assaulted her in a gas station parking lot on US-31.

Deputies responded to a call about a sexual assault near US-31 and Stanton Street around 8:05 p.m. on Sunday.

The investigation revealed that the 60-year-old man had allegedly been tailing the woman as she drove south on US-31 from Grand Haven.

He then reportedly crashed into her Jeep near US-31 and Lake Michigan Drive and continued to pursue her until she pulled into a gas station near US-31 and Stanton Street. The woman thought the man wanted to report the accident to the police.

However, when they both exited their cars, the man physically assaulted and inappropriately touched the woman, according to deputies.

The woman fought back and managed to free herself, sustaining only minor injuries, and called 911.

The 60-year-old suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived.

Detectives later identified and arrested him in Muskegon on Monday. He is currently in the Muskegon County Jail for a parole violation.

Charges for the alleged assault are still pending, and his name will not be released at this time, deputies said.
