Florida Woman Shoots Intruder in Self-Defense After He Forces Entry into Bedroom

On May 21, 2024, a woman in Kissimmee, Florida, shot and wounded an alleged intruder after he entered her home and made his way into the bedroom where she and her family were hiding.
According to the Miami Herald, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) responded to a burglary in progress and arrived to find 28-year-old David Martinez-Estrada inside the residence. Despite deputies’ attempts to get him to leave, Martinez-Estrada continued to move deeper into the home.
The OCSO reported that Martinez-Estrada eventually “exited the residence.” They also stated that the woman acted in self-defense when Martinez-Estrada forced his way into the bedroom where she and her family were taking shelter.
Martinez-Estrada was wounded by the gunfire and transported to the hospital for treatment. He faces charges including criminal mischief, burglary of an occupied dwelling without being armed, stalking, and resisting an officer without violence, according to the sheriff’s office.
